You're right it does give that warning but it used to be when the warning popped up instead of hitting cancel you would just push your home button and wa la it worked! But now you get a pop up from foxfi asking to let them install a VPN and if u do this it will work again. Which you will get a pop up for when u first open the app. I had to let Foxfi set up the VPN as well. It did take a little fiddling for me to get it to work.
